Dear West Seattle & Fauntleroy YMCA Members,
Thanks for being patient as we complete the last major phase of remodel and expansion of your West Seattle YMCA facility. Our contractor crews have been working long shifts throughout the recent closure, including holidays and weekends, to move the project forward.
Unfortunately, the West Seattle Y building will be delayed in reopening for a critical install that is taking longer and postponing final inspections. We are now targeting to reopen on Friday, January 6 at 5:30am.
I am very sorry for our inability to meet the original January 2 target. As you may know, construction projects can be difficult to perfectly time.
Our members have been troopers through the dust, noise, winding corridors and construction inconveniences of the past seven months and now we’re excited for you to see the finished results! Beyond all the benefits the facility will provide, we will be introducing some great new programs, classes and equipment.
To thank you for your patience and to help you fully experience your newly-remodeled and expanded Y, we will be providing each current member household with a $75 CONSTRUCTION CREDIT for YMCA programs in 2017. You can use it for a 1:1 personal fitness training or to participate in a small group class, one of our new cooking programs or swim lessons. Or maybe you just want to reduce your child care or summer day camp fees.
Over the next week we will continue to post additional updates here and on our social media accounts. Group exercise classes will be added to the Fauntleroy schedule and drop-in child care will continue to have extended hours as it has the past two weeks. Full details on redeeming your $75 CONSTRUCTION CREDIT can also be found below this blog post.
Thank you for your membership. We can’t wait to welcome you back to your new Y!

Seattle, Washington – The West Seattle YMCA today announced that as part of its expansion and renovation project, it is opening a new fitness studio housing Queenax, an innovative new training system.
Queenax is multi-purpose training equipment that centers on functional fitness, using exercises that mimic daily life activities to improve cardiovascular endurance and gain strength, flexibility and conditioning.
With a range of equipment all on one frame, workouts can include anything from TRX suspension training to a punching bag, battle rope drills and dip bars. Queenax can also be used for stretching and flexibility by attaching bars and straps at different heights. The options are endless and easily scaled to support every fitness level.
“I am excited about the uniqueness of the Queenax equipment,” says Lindsay Exley, Health & Wellness Director at the Y. “I like to think of Queenax as an adult jungle gym – a way to make fitness fun and exciting! Whether new to exercise, or wanting to add variety to a routine, our Queenax will offer something for just about anyone.”
The Queenax Fitness Studio will open on Monday, November 14 with a three-week series of demo classes. The demo classes are free to both Members and Community Participants, with advance registration required. Users can choose to participate in a TRX demo, Pilates demo or Circuit Training demo or all three. A full schedule of group exercise classes and drop-in times starts in early December.Read More...
